In the past, two fake internet sites were launched online to spread the news of the Zainab Bhayo gang-rape case. In December 2011, an entire family held the girl. They took her to a locality of Khipro town. There they raped her at least ten times in a locked room. Some days later, they shared the video on different websites. The families of the accused were alleged to have paid them Rs10 million each to buy freedom.
According to Khipro police, in the early hours of December 7, 2010, the thieves entered the house of Zainab Bhayo and her parents. The thieves took away the mobile phones and a laptop of Zainab Bhayo, and then raped her. The thieves also threatened her parents to refrain from filing a case against them. The culprits also robbed Rs5,000 from Zainab Bhayo.
According to the police, the fingerprints of the accused were found in the house. A laptop of Zainab Bhayo was also found with the accused. Zainab’s mobile phone had been found in a nearby canal.
According to the Dr Mohammad Amin Bhayo, a renowned ophthalmologist of Sindh, the accused had subjected the girl to torture for nearly a decade. After the incident, Zainab Bhayo’s condition had deteriorated. Besides taking her to different hospitals, the accused had also forced her to undergo treatment by her own relatives.
Zainab Bhayo is a class 11 student at Government High School, Khipro, Sindh. She had sought protection of the court on the ground of threats to her safety and her future. The security of her family has been assured.
In the Bhayo rape case however, the accused used to call the victim and introduce themselves as the uncle of the victim, claiming that her father has expired and that she is an orphan. After that, he told her to meet him at a particular street and when she went there, he picked her up in his car. He did not stop at his car on the way and took her to his home where she was raped. Later, she was kept confined in his garden, where two other men also raped her. The next day, the girl was taken to the police station where she filed her complaint.
