When I connected the adapter to my MacBook Pro, I had no way of selecting the COM port. I tried the adapter using my iPhone, but I was not able to connect. I then tried with a USB-to-serial adapter that came with my laptop. I was able to connect to the adapter using this USB-to-serial adapter. I was able to find the port using the USB-to-serial adapter.
I used a pair of comms cable from a computer to a printer to test the adapter on my MacBook Pro. I was able to connect using UCS-1 (modem) and a PC to the adapter no problem. When I tried to connect to the adapter using a serial port I received no data. I tried the adapter with my previous PC from the same box and with another Mac and was able to connect to the adapter using the computer serial ports.
I contacted Prolific support again and they recommended I contact Amazon to get a replacement cable. I did, and they shipped a second cable which worked on Win10, but not on my Mac. So I opened a support case with Prolific and they pulled the serial port adapter out of my Mac Pro and tested it (they did not touch my Windows box). The serial port adapter has a white LED on it, and none of the LEDs light up on the adapter. The serial port adapter is now in the mail and I will let you know how it works.
Until this morning, I was running a hardware tester program to verify the size and functionality of the disk. No matter what I tried, the FTDI cable did not work on Windows 10. Tried setting the different combinations in the device manager and in the different port numbers in the protocols tab of the adapters settings. No dice. It just would not work.
