In April 1998, Dion began the Unforgettable tour in Canada. It was a different tour, as Dion wore a traditional black dress with a white apron, which symbolized her father's death. This tour was even bigger than the Titanic tour, grossing $30 million in Canada alone.[40] After the tour, Dion returned to her Las Vegas residency.
After the Vancouver concert, Dion continued on the Titanic tour. In Vancouver alone, Dion generated $15.5 million for the city. The tour generated $32 million overall, and finished February 23, 1998, with a gross of $60 million, and a total audience of over 6 million.[38] On February 3, 1998, Dion was named the top-earning artist in Canada.[39]
The crowd of 16,000 was a testament to Dion's popularity, as the audience increased from 6,000 on the opening date. The Vancouver concert was the biggest at the time, topping the 4-show total of $9 million and downing the previous record of 5-shows for $10 million, held by the 10-show Titanic tour in April and May 1997. The previous record had been held by the 9-show Unforgettable tour.
Dion's last world tour, titled Taking Chances, began on 7 September 2011 and was kicked off by a small European leg in September 2011. It was her first tour in nearly a decade. On 19 May 2011, Dion announced via her official website that she would launch her new music and film project Taking Chances, which features a book of original songs by Dion and her frequent songwriters, and a soundtrack album. The album included a cover of Prince's song, Kiss, and was released on 8 October 2011 by Sony/Columbia. In August 2011, Dion began filming the accompanying film, Taking Chances, which is a musical film directed by Bill Condon. The film was released on 26 December 2011. The film is a story of Dion's life, featuring her iconic songs, as well as her struggles and triumphs.
Traditionally, the tour's opening act for each night's show is a British act. For the European leg of the tour, the opening act is American singer/actress Kellie Pickler . For the Australian leg of the tour, the opening act is Australian singer Angela Bloomfield , who performs with the Australian backing band, The Verge . For the Australian show in Melbourne, Dion will be accompanied by British pop star Ricky Martin .
A much improved and expanded set list than the previous year, the set list consisted of songs from the previous three world tours, along with two new songs. The first song was the title track of her album, which opened with Dion and two backup singers on a catwalk. 827ec27edc
